Artificial Intelligence in Support of the Teacher
Artificial Intelligence in Support of the Teacher
In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has been increasingly boldly entering various spheres of life, including education. Many teachers feel insecure when they hear about AI, because they associate this technology with complex systems or even with concerns about replacing the human factor. However, the truth is that AI can be a faithful ally in the daily work of a teacher – saving time, facilitating preparatory work and inspiring students.
What is artificial intelligence?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the ability of computer systems to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence – such as speech recognition, text understanding, decision-making, content creation, and even learning from experience.
In education, this means we can use AI to automatically create materials, adapt content to student needs, and more easily organize teaching and assessment.
AI does not replace the human teacher – it is a tool that can make our work more effective and meaningful by freeing up time for what no algorithm can replace: human connection, empathy, and inspiration.
Why is AI a valuable assistant for teachers?
Teaching today involves much more than just imparting knowledge. Teachers are dealing with planning, administration, and working with students with different needs and expectations. In this reality, artificial intelligence can take over some of the repetitive tasks and facilitate the process of preparing and adapting content.
ChatGPT – The digital assistant in preparation
ChatGPT is a language model developed by OpenAI that understands and creates texts. It works in Bulgarian and can be useful in preparing lessons, formulating questions, or creating materials.
It is important to review the information and adapt it to the needs of the class – ChatGPT is not a substitute for your professional judgment, but a tool for inspiration and quick preparation.
Canva Magic Write – Visualization made easy
Canva is a well-known tool for teachers to create presentations, posters, and worksheets. With the Magic Write feature (in Canva Docs), you can create text explanations, ideas, and plans that you can then easily turn into visual content. It’s useful for creating whiteboards, interactive lessons, or student support materials.
Curipod and Quizgecko – More interactivity in the classroom
Curipod is a platform for creating interactive lessons that include polls, open-ended questions, word clouds, and visualizations. It is suitable for elementary and high school classes, especially when introducing a new topic or summary.
Quizgecko converts text – such as from a textbook or article – into test questions. This is extremely useful for independent work, preparing for a test, or adapting material for different levels.
Diffit – Personalization according to student level
Diffit is a platform that allows you to create learning materials according to the age and level of your students. You enter text, a topic or a link, and Diffit creates adapted explanations, questions and tasks. Extremely useful for differentiated teaching and when working with students with special educational needs.
Ethical guidelines for using AI in education
The use of artificial intelligence in schools has many advantages, but it is important to approach it with care and responsibility. Here are some basic ethical principles:
Data Privacy – Do not share sensitive information about students and colleagues with AI tools.
Transparency – When using AI in class, explain to students how it works and why you are using it.
Critical Thinking – Always review and edit AI-generated content. It is not a substitute for your pedagogical expertise.
Equal Access – Ensure that the use of AI does not exclude students without access to technology.
Treat AI as an assistant, not a replacement. The key role in learning remains that of the teacher.
A few tips for a successful start:
Start with one tool to avoid getting overwhelmed.
Test it with a small group of students or with a single class.
Don't be afraid to experiment – AI learns along with you.
Share with colleagues – the exchange of good practices is invaluable.
Artificial intelligence offers many opportunities to improve the educational process. Through careful and responsible integration of AI tools, teachers can enrich their teaching, increase student engagement, and optimize their time. However, it is important to approach the use of AI critically and ethically, while preserving the human element in education.
